Over-indebtedness of European households: updated mapping of the situation, nature and causes, effects and initiatives for alleviating its impact

Project summary:
The key objective of this study was to build a robust and updated knowledge-basis on European households' over-indebtedness, to be used for further initiatives in this field. The TOR highlight four operational objectives of the study: (1) Providing a systematic and comparable snapshot of the situation of households' over-indebtedness in all the EU Member States; (2) Improving our knowledge of the nature and the causes of households' over-indebtedness; (3) Focusing on some financial effects of households' over-indebtedness; and (4) Providing a comprehensive list of measures in force for alleviating the impact of households' over-indebtedness in all EU Member States and of organisations active in this field.
